Entomology Section
Arthropod identification services are just one of the responsibilities of the Entomology Section. This section also conducts investigations of certain economic insect problems, builds and maintains the arthropod reference and research collection (the Florida State Collection of Arthropods), conducts taxonomic research, supervises the security of the Florida Biological Control Laboratory in Gainesville and the Biological Control & Research Containment Laboratory in Ft. Pierce, examines over 264,000 fruit fly traps a year and develops the taxonomic and biological control literature to support these areas of responsibility.
