Florida Forest Service Volunteer Spotlight
The Florida Forest Service welcomes approximately 80 new volunteers each year to maintain a base of around 500 active volunteers. These volunteers help employees serve the state forests’ more than 2 million annual visitors, manage over 1 million acres of public lands, and fight wildfires to protect life, property and forest resources.
2020 Volunteer of the Year
Dennis Chapman
Jennings State Forest
Dennis exemplifies not only dedication and attention to detail, but a drive for providing high quality hiking opportunities in Jennings State Forest that are second to none. Dennis has implemented the Pioneer Trail connecting all four of Jennings' canoe landings along the North Fork of Black Creek. This trail traverses over 10 miles of scenic beauty, from breathtaking vistas over the creek to waterfalls. Dennis has dedicated over 2,000 hours to the implementation of the Pioneer Trail. While most of Dennis' time is dedicated to the trail, he is always willing to take on other projects or assist in general state forest recreation maintenance.
Dennis should be commended for his hard work, dedication, and the example of excellence that he shows each time he volunteers.
