Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Commissioner Nicole “Nikki” Fried announced that a team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will examine all aspects of the Office of Inspector General and Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices or other places where compliance can be witnessed.
The Office of Inspector General must comply with approximately 43 standards, and the Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE) must comply with approximately 240 standards, to maintain reaccreditation status for a period of three years – many of the standards are critical to life, health, and safety issues.
Assessors from the CFA will arrive on March 21, 2019, to examine the Office of Inspector General. The assessment team will be led by Investigator Flora Tran of the Florida Department of Children and Families. Originally awarded full accredited status on July 1, 2010, this will be the Office of Inspector General’s third reaccreditation. Captain Corey A. Aittama is the Office’s accreditation manager.
Assessors from the CFA will arrive on April 2, 2019, to examine the Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement. The assessment team will be led by Commander Chris Willett of the Altamonte Springs Police Department. Originally awarded full accredited status on June 6, 2007, this will be OALE’s fourth reaccreditation. The Accreditation Manager for the Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement is Gina Averett.
Once the review is complete, assessors will report back to the full Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, who collectively decide if the Offices will be awarded reaccreditation. Verification by the team that the Offices meet the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain or maintain accreditation.
Access a copy of the law enforcement standards manual and the inspectors general manual. For more information regarding the CFA, or for persons wishing to offer written comments about the Offices’ ability to meet the standards of accreditation, please write: CFA, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, Florida 32302, or email to info@flaccreditation.org or flaccreditation@fdle.state.fl.us.
